Tips To Stay Focused & Blast Through Those Final Reps
We have all had days where we feel sluggish and unmotivated at the gym. We cheat on our reps, skip exercises and come up with any excuse we can find to go home. Unfortunately this can sometimes be habit forming, and we find ourselves losing site of our lifting goals. Luckily, there are some simple tips and tricks you can use to break through those mental barriers and sharpen your focus when it really matters.
Every professional athlete on earth uses this technique and bodybuilders are no exception.
Whether you know it or not, the amount of weight, sets, and reps you can do is determined in your mind before you even step up to that bench or rack.
Before your next set, take 10 seconds and establish the number of reps you want to hit, what form you want use, and which muscles you want to activate – visualize those muscles contracting. You’ll find that once your mind has been given a proper run through, complete with goals and movements, the reality will be much easier to achieve time and time again.
Get A Training Partner
This can be a tough one to accomplish; everyone has his/her own schedule so finding two people who’s geography and schedule match perfectly is no easy task. That being said, if you can fine a partner, even if only for one workout a week, it can often make all the difference.
A training partner will force you not to cheat, not to do 10 reps when you wanted to do 12. Real gains are made when you don’t want to keep going – a training partner will help get you there.
While we all know that performing adequate repetitions and volume of sets for each exercise is key to building a muscular frame, we also know that intensity is the key to real growth. While some can achieve this on their own, we know many bodybuilders (even professionals!) who perform much more intensely with a training partner at their side.
Beats & Grunts
It has been shown that listening to music while working out provides focus and, if used appropriately, motivation. So remember to bring your iPod and stack it with music that will get you amped enough to push past the point of failure.
During your workout, your body is working overtime and your blood is in constant demand for oxygen. Steady breathing during your workout is essential; a regular rhythm will keep your energy up and your muscles in check. Breathing will also give your mind something to focus on besides the task at hand. The most common practice is to breathe out steadily upon exertion. Grunting upon exertion is a form of deep breathing, and it also gives you a psychological edge when moving a massive stack of weight – don’t be afraid to though out the occasional grunt – just don;t be the guy who does it non-stop.
Pre & Intra Workout Supplementation
If you’ve never take a pre-workout you’re missing out on all kinds of intensity. Not to say that you need a pre everytime you workout, but on those days when you’re dragging your ass after a long day at work, you will be shocked at what a simple dose of focus will do for you mindset. Consider RAZOR8 or MUSCLEPRIME – both are serious blood volume champs, with RAZOR8 being for the more battle tested who are looking for a serious CNS stimulant, while MUSCLEPRIME has just enough to clear the cobwebs and provide intense focus.
