Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and can account for around 30% of your body’s protein. It provides structure, support and strength to your skin, muscles, bones, and connective tissues but those things naturally decline with age and abuse to our bodies through exercise and things like weight training although extremely beneficial can cause declines in connective tissue like cartilage and that’s where there becomes a huge benefit to supplemental collagen support. Research shows that collagen can regenerate cartilage and I personally have noticed an improvement in my knees and elbows since supplementing it.
Most people especially women use it for skin health and appearance as it helps new cells grow when skin cells naturally die which helps keep the skin tight by giving it elasticity, and becomes even more important for women as they age to supplement it since menopause significantly reduces collagen production.
What are symptoms that I can look for, for declining collagen?
Things like losing that fullness in your face and starting to notice the look of hallowing around your eyes. Joint pain as I mentioned can be from a decline in cartilage in joints. Tendons and ligaments feel stiffer. These are just some of the symptoms, but they are probably what you’ll notice first. I don’t think it’s a good thing to start supplementing with collagen only when you notice symptoms as a lot of those symptoms could be preventable by being proactive and taking it as part of your daily supplement routine.
Not all Collagens are created equal
And that’s why I choose Allmax Nutrition’s Collagen as it’s Grass Fed and Pasture raised for the quality Collagen but also has added Biotin which further supports skin, hair and nail strength and Vitamin C as an antioxidant to scavenge for free radicals which cause damage to your cells.
In summary, Collagen has many health benefits and is something you can’t go wrong with so why wait till it’s needed when you can prolong or prevent those symptoms by supplementing with it daily. My recommendation is 20g in any beverage you choose as it’s flavorless and easily mixes.
