LOOK NO FURTHER, ISONATURAL HAS YOU COVERED.
One look at the label will tell you that there are some interesting details about IsoNatural. Not only is it sweetened exclusively with Stevia Leaf Extract it is devoid of any artificial dyes or colorings, and it contains bioactive and functional food ingredients that propel this whey protein far beyond a simple anabolic supplement. Of course, as a whey protein isolate, IsoNatural provides all the muscle protein synthesis stimulation of other whey proteins. The quick absorption rate of this whey protein provides a sharp increase in protein synthesis post consumption (1). Like any other whey protein, IsoNatural will enhance gains in combination with a strong resistance training routine (2).
However, due to the cold filtration process by which this whey is isolated, important bioactive compounds are preserved in the final formula. Bioactive compounds are characterized by having the capacity to elicit a biological effect outside of simply providing nutrients. In IsoNatural, three of the most prevalent bioactive proteins are beta-lactoglobulin, alpha-lactalbumin, and glycomacropeptide. With antimicrobial and antihypertensive properties, including these proteins in the diet are a great additions for overall health and well-being.
PRESERVED BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS
The bioactivity of beta-lactoglobulin stems from individual peptides that are released upon its processing post consumption (3). Breaking down beta-lactoglobulin with digestive enzymes yields peptides that inhibit angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE). Inhibition of ACE may generate an antihypertensive effect; thus, lending credibility to the favorable effects of beta-lactoglubin on blood pressure (3). Additionally, when fragmented by pepsin, a digestive enzyme in humans, the resulting protein fragments of beta-lactoglobulin has been shown to elicit antimicrobial activity against a number of pathogenic bacteria including Escherichia coli (3).
The bioactive compound, alpha-lactalbumin also elicits antimicrobial and antihypertensive functions similar to that of beta-lactoglobulin. In contrast to beta-lactoglobulin, digestion with chemotrypsin instead of pepsin releases peptides from alpha-lactalbumin that are known to have antimicrobial properties, particularly against E. coli (4). However, similarly to beta-lactoglobulin, hydrolysis of alpha-lactalbumin releases peptides that also inhibit ACE lending additional function as a blood pressure-regulating bioactive compound (4).
ISONATURAL ALSO COMES EQUIPPED WITH THE NATURALLY SOURCED PREBIOTIC, INULIN.
Glycomacropeptide also displays some interesting bioactive properties. For instance, it has been shown to bind enterotoxin produced by pathogenic strains Vibrio cholerae and E. coli (5). Interestingly, in animal models, feeding with glycomacropeptide was capable of protecting against Vibrio cholerae and E. coli-derived enterotoxin-associated diarrhea (5). IsoNatural, doesn’t stop at providing fantastic bioactive compounds that elicit great health advantages. It also comes equipped with the naturally sourced prebiotic, Inulin. This prebiotic is extracted from chicory root in a meticulous and detailed method such that the integrity of Inulin is not compromised (6). Inulin is a fiber that is composed of glucose linked to several fructose chains of variable length; 10 is the average unit length however, they range from 2 to greater than 23 (6).
Inulin is a functional fiber defined as providing a benefit to well-being and/or reduced risk of disease beyond adequate nutritional effects (7). The major driver of Inulin as a functional food is the positive effects on colon health (7). As a prebiotic, Inulin is capable of resisting digestion in the small intestine, is fermented by intestinal microflora and stimulates the growth of intestinal bacterial that are likely associated with good health (8). One of the primary gut bacteria associated with good health is bifidobacteria, which is selectively stimulated to grow by the fiber Inulin (7, 9).
INULIN IS A FIBER THAT POSITIVELY AFFECTS GUT HEALTH
A healthy gut microflora is important for many different reasons. The functions of a healthy gut microflora, particularly those elicited by bifidobacterium are vast. Some of these beneficial effects include the synthesis of vitamins, particularly B vitamins (10). Additional health benefits include warding off potentially harmful bacteria by specifically producing antimicrobial compounds and competing for binding sites in the colon (10). Bifidobacteria have also been shown to have a positive effect on the immune system by stimulating the activity of immune cells, the exact mechanisms by which this occurs in humans however, are poorly understood (10). Inulin is not limited in its functional food status to solely enhancing the population of beneficial gut microflora. It has also been shown to enhance regularity (11), and mediate the absorption of some minerals such as calcium (7, 12).
IsoNatural is truly the number one choice for those individuals looking for a natural alternative to their whey protein isolate. Between bioactive proteins and functional Inulin, the health benefits of this all natural alternative are plentiful. This is not to be masked by the exceptional anabolic properties inherent to whey protein isolate in the first place.
With the addition of IsoNatural in your daily training regime, you’ll notice a huge change in not only your physique but your overall health and well-being as well! Stay fit and stay healthy. By: Steven Bugiel (IG: @Stevieinonstagram) BSc (Food Science and Nutrition); MSc (Biochemsitry)
